Built in the 14th century and recently renovated, this small Vaishnava temple at Chilkur enshrines the Lord Venkatavan in standing posture. Among the ancient and renowned temples of Telangana, this 'Chilkur Balaji' shrine lies about 33 km from the city of Hyderabad. According to temple tradition, there once lived a devotee of deep devotion to Venkatesa of Tirumala who, in his old age, could no longer travel to Tirumala; so that the elderly devotee could have the Lord's darshan daily, the deity is said to have emerged as an idol from his farmland. The Thiruppanazhwar utsavam is celebrated grandly here, and it is a speciality of the sthalam that the poojas follow the very worship traditions of Tirumala. The Lord, called 'Chilkur Balaji' by the local people, also bears the affectionate name 'Visa Balaji', as he is said to resolve visa-related difficulties for those going abroad. Devotees hoping to travel abroad for work tie prayer threads on a tree here, place their passport at the Lord's feet and pray earnestly, and their wishes are said to be surely fulfilled, which is why the Lord bears the unusual name 'Visa Balaji'.

(தெலுங்கானா மாநிலத்தில், பழமையும் பிரசித்தமும் பெற்ற ஆலயங்களில், ஐதராபாத் மாநகரத்திலிருந்து 33-k.m. தொலைவில் அமைந்துள்ள இந்த 'சில்க்கூர் பாலாஜி' திருக்கோயிலும் ஒன்று) ஒரு வரலாற்று நிகழ்வின்படி; முற்காலத்தில், திருமலை வெங்கடேச பெருமாள் மீது அதீத பக்தி கொண்டிருந்த பக்தருக்காக, (திருப்பதி) திருமலை செல்ல இயலாத அவரது வயதான காலத்தில், (இறைவனின் தரிசனம் நிதமும் காணவேண்டிய அம்முதியவருக்காக) விவசாய பூமியிலிருந்து விக்ரகமாக வெளிபட்டவராம் இத்தல இறைவன். திருப்பாணாழ்வார் உற்சவம் சிறப்பாக நடைபெறும் இத்திருத்தலத்தில், திருமலையில் நடைபெறும் வழிபாட்டு முறையிலேயே பூஜைகள் நடப்பது தலவிசேஷம். *விசா பாலாஜி* உள்ளூர் மக்களால் "சில்க்கூர் பாலாஜி" என்றழைக்கப்படும் இத்தல இறைவனுக்கு, "விசா பாலாஜி" எனும் செல்லமான திருநாமமும் உண்டு. (வெளிநாடுகளுக்கு செல்ல, விசா சம்பந்தமான சிக்கல்களை தீர்த்துவைப்பவர் என்கிறார்கள்) வெளிநாடுகளில் வேலை நிமித்தமாக செல்லவிரும்புவோர், இங்குள்ள மரத்தில் பிரார்த்தனை கயிறுகளை கட்டிய பின், தங்களது பாஸ்போர்ட் புத்தகத்தினை இத்தல இறைவனின் திருவடியில் வைத்து உளமார பிரார்த்தனை செய்கின்றனர்.
