Perched atop a small hill about 450 feet high near Kamakshipuram, this little shrine requires devotees to climb 619 steps to reach the sanctum, where Sri Gopinatha Swami grants darshan playing the flute. Thayar Sri Koppammal graces a separate shrine in a standing posture. The Lord here is especially worshipped by those seeking a job transfer, while the Saturday worship, offered for the flourishing of agriculture and the wellbeing of cattle, is the temple's special observance. Dating from the Nayakar period, this hilltop temple is little known to devotees from outside and is cherished mainly by the local people. Krishna Jayanti (Gokulashtami) is the famous and grand festival celebrated here. The steep ascent, the flute-bearing form of Gopinatha atop the Gopinathan hillock, and the rustic devotion centred on farming and cattle give this shrine in Reddiarchathiram taluk of Dindigul district its distinctive character, making it a serene and rewarding climb for the pilgrim who seeks the Lord's grace upon the hill.
