This ancient Vaishnava temple at Nagapattinam, praised in the hymns of Thirumangai Azhwar, is the 19th of the 108 Divya Desams. Roughly 2000 years old, it stands beneath the Saundarya (Bhadrakoti) vimana, where the moolavar grants darshan facing east in standing posture as a thirumanjana (abhishekam) idol, while Thayar Soundaravalli gives darshan seated in a separate shrine. The sthalam is revered as one worshipped across all four yugas: Bhumadevi performed penance here in Treta yuga and Markandeya in Dwapara yuga, and Adisesha did penance here and was accepted as the Lord's serpent-couch. Because Adisesha (Naga) worshipped the Lord, the town was once called 'Naganpattinam', later becoming 'Nagapattinam'. Devotees are drawn to the eight-armed Ashtabhuja Narasimha, one hand blessing Prahlada, one in abhaya mudra and the other six slaying Hiranya, and to the utsavar Soundararaja with Gajalakshmi. The temple's glory is recorded in ten chapters of the Brahmanda Purana's Uttara Kanda as the 'Soundara Aranya Mahima'. Major festivals include the ten-day Panguni Brahmotsavam, the ten-day Aani Uthiram, and the ten-day Aadi Pooram for Andal, with special Saturday poojas in Thai and Purattasi.

(🙏🏻 சிறப்புக்கள் பல பெற்ற இத்தலத்தின் பதிவுகள் சில மட்டும்; "பொன்னிவர்மேனி மரகதத்தின் பொங்கிளஞ்சோதி யகலத்தாரம்மின், இவர் வாயில் நல்வேதமோதும் வேதியர்..." எனத்தொடரும், திருமங்கையாழ்வாரால் மங்களாசாசனம் செய்யப்பட்ட இத்தலம், 108-திவ்ய தேசங்களில் 19-ஆவது திருத்தலமாகும். சுமார் 2000-ஆண்டுகள் பழமையான, இந்த வைணவ திருத்தலத்தின் சௌந்தர்ய (பத்ரகோடி)விமானத்தின் கீழுள்ள கருவறையில், கிழக்கு பார்த்து நின்ற திருக்கோலத்தில் திருமஞ்சன திருமேனியராய் அருட்காட்சியளித்திட, தனி சன்னதியில் தாயார் அமர்ந்த நிலையில் அழகு அருட்காட்சியளிக்கிறாள். திரேதாயுகத்தில் பூமாதேவி தவமிருந்த திருத்தலம். துவாபரயுகத்தில் மார்க்கண்டேயர் தவமிருந்த திருத்தலம் என, நான்கு யுகங்களிலும் வழிபடப்படும் சிறப்புமிகு தலமாக போற்றப்படும் இங்குதான் ஆதிசேஷன் தவம் புரிந்து பெருமாளின் சயனமாக ஏற்றுக்கொள்ளப்பட்டாராம். (இத்தல இறைவனை ஆதிசேஷன் வழிபட்ட காரணத்தினாலேயே, முற்காலத்தில் இவ்வூர் "நாகன்பட்டினம்" என்றழைக்ப்பட்டு பின் அப்பெயர் மருவி, தற்போதைய 'நாகப்பட்டினம்' என்றானதாம்) ஒரு கரம் பிரகலாதனை ஆசிர்வதிப்பதும், ஒரு கரம் அபய முத்திரை காட்டுவதும் மற்ற ஆறு கரங்கள் இரண்யனனை வதம் செய்வதுமாய் எட்டு கரங்களுடன் அருள்பாலிக்கும் அஷ்டபுஜ நரசிம்மர் தரிசனமும், உற்சவராக அருட்காட்சிதரும் சௌந்தரராஜரும், கஜலக்ஷ்மி தேவியும் அழகு, அற்புதம்.
