Known as the 'Guruvayur of Thiruvananthapuram district', this is among Kerala's most renowned Krishna temples. Situated about 20 km south of Thiruvananthapuram on the bank of the Neyyar river, its sanctum enshrines Sri Krishna as a one-and-a-half-foot panchaloha (five-metal) idol facing west. Revered as 'Neyyattinkara Unni Krishnan', the Lord grants a distinctive darshan standing with loose, flowing hair and holding balls of butter in both hands; the butter offered upon him is regarded as a rare medicine that cures even incurable diseases. By tradition, the Travancore king Marthanda Varma, an ardent devotee of Krishna, was saved here from enemies who came to destroy him: Krishna appeared as a young cowherd boy, bade him hide within the hollow of a jackfruit tree, and then vanished. In gratitude the king built this temple (1750 to 1755); as the Lord did not grant permission for a stone image, a five-metal idol was consecrated. The very jackfruit tree in which the king hid remains the sthala vruksham to this day, lovingly called 'Ammachipila'. Krishna Jayanthi is celebrated with grandeur, and the annual festival falls in the Malayalam month of Meenam.

(🙏🏻 சிறப்புக்கள் பல பெற்ற இத்தலத்தின் பதிவுகள் சில மட்டும்; திருவனந்தபுரம் மாவட்டத்தின் "குருவாயூர்" என்றழைக்கப்படும் இத்தலம், கேரள மாநிலத்தின் பிரசித்திபெற்ற கிருஷ்ணர் ஆலயங்களில் ஒன்றாக திகழ்கிறது. கேரள தலைநகர் திருவனந்தபுரம் நகரத்திற்கு தெற்கே 20- k.m.தொலைவில், நெய்யாற்றங்கரையோரம் அமைந்துள்ள இந்த வைணவத் திருத்தலத்தின் கருவறையில், ஸ்ரீகிருஷ்ணர் ஒன்றரை அடி உயர பஞ்சலோக திருமேனியராய் மேற்கு முகமாக அருட்காட்சியளிக்கிறார். ( "நெய்யாற்றங்கரை உன்னி கிருஷ்ணன்" என்றழைக்கப்படும் இறைவன், பஞ்சலோக சிலை வடிவாய் தன் இரு திருக்கரங்களிலும் வெண்ணெய் உருண்டைகள் தாங்கி, விரித்த தலை முடியுடன் நின்ற திருக்கோலத்தில் வித்தியாசமாக அருட்காட்சியளிப்பது தலவிசேஷம். இவர் மீது சாத்தப்படும் வெண்ணெய் தீராநோய் தீர்க்கும் அருமருந்தாக கருதப்படுகிறது) ஒரு வரலாற்று நிகழ்வின்படி; ஸ்ரீ கிருஷ்ணர் மீது அதீத பக்தி கொண்டிருந்த திருவிதாங்கூர் மன்னர் மார்த்தாண்ட வர்மா, இந்த நெய்யாற்றங்கரையில் தன்னை அழித்திட வந்த பகைவர்களிடமிருந்து, *(* *ஆடு மேய்க்கும் சிறுவனாக* மன்னர் முன்வந்து, ஒரு பலா மரத்தின் பொந்தினுள் மறைந்துகொள்ள பணித்து, பின் மறைந்துபோன *)* தன்னை காப்பாற்றிய ஸ்ரீ கிருஷ்ணருக்கு, (1750 to 1755 ஆம் ஆண்டுகளில்) ஆலயம் கட்டி, (கற்சிலை வடித்தும் பிரதிஷ்டைசெய்ய இறைவனின் அனுமதி கிடைக்காமல்) ஐம்பொன் சிலை வடித்து பிரதிஷ்டை செய்யப்பட்டு வழிபட்டதாக தலவரலாறு கூறுகிறது. அன்று, மன்னர் ஒளிந்துகொண்ட பலா மரமே இத்தலத்தின் தலவிருட்சமாக இன்றும் உள்ளது சிறப்பு.
