Sthala Mahātmyam
Sanctified by the hymns of Nammazhwar, this temple is the 83rd of the 108 Divya Desams. It is the fourth of the Nava Thiruppathis spread across the Tirunelveli and Thoothukudi districts and, among the shrines where the Lord himself graces as the nine planets, it is the Budhan (Mercury) sthalam. Reckoned to be more than 2,000 years old, beneath its Vedasara Vimana the Lord gives darshan in a reclining (sayana) posture, facing east with his head resting upon his hand and his two consorts beside him; the utsava couple is exceedingly beautiful. According to the sthala puranas, this is the place where the Lord reclined as Bhumipalaka for the Earth Goddess (Nilamagal); where Indra was freed of his Brahmahatti dosha; where the brahmin Yagnasarma, who had wandered as a demon, obtained release from his curse; and where Varuna, Niruthi, Dharmaraja and Narada received his gracious darshan. Those born under the sign of Budhan are counselled to worship here, and the Vaikunta Ekadasi festival celebrated at this shrine is regarded as especially grand.

(🙏🏻 சிறப்புக்கள் பல பெற்ற இத்திருத்தலத்தின் பதிவுகள் சில மட்டும்; "கொடுவினைப்படைகள் வல்லையாய் அமரர்க்கு இடர் கெட அசுரர்கட்கு இடர் செய் கடுவினை நஞ்சே என்னுடையமுதே கலிவயல் திருப்புளியங்குடியாய் வடிவினை இல்லா மலர்மகள் மற்றை நிலமகள் பிடிக்கும் மெல்லடியை கொடுவினையேனும் பிடிக்க நீ ஒருநாள் கூவுதல் வருதல் செய்யாயே" என, நம்மாழ்வாரால் மங்களாசாசனம் செய்யப்பட்ட இத்திருத்தலம் 108-திவ்ய தேசங்களில் 83-வது வைணவத்தலம், (திருநெல்வேலி, தூத்துக்குடி மாவட்டங்களிலுள்ள, நவத்திருப்பதிகளில் 4-வது திருப்பதி மற்றும் நம் பெருமாளே நவகிரகங்களாக திருவருள்புரியும் ஆலயங்களில் இது புதன் ஸ்தலம்) சுமார் 2000-ஆண்டுகளுக்கும் மேல் பழமையான இத்திருத்தலத்தின் வேதசார விமானத்தின் கீழுள்ள கருவறையில் நம் திருமால், தேவியர் இருவரும் அருகிலிருக்க கிழக்கே திருமுக மண்டலமாக, மக்காலை தலையினடியில் வைத்து சயன திருக்கோலத்தில் அருட்காட்சியளிக்கிறார். உற்சவர் தம்பதியர் வெகு அழகு. சில புராண வரலாற்று நிகழ்வுகளின்படி; நில மகளுக்கு பூமிபாலகராக சயன திருக்கோலத்தில் அருட்காட்சி தந்த தலம், இந்திரனுக்கு பிரம்மஹத்தி தோஷம் நீங்கிய தலம். ராட்சசனாக சுற்றித்திரிந்த யக்ஞசர்மா என்ற பிராமணனுக்கு , சாபவிமோசனம் கிடைக்கப்பெற்ற தலம். வருணன், நிருதி தர்மராஜன், நாரதர் ஆகியோருக்கு, நம் பெருமாள் திருஅருட்காட்சியளித்த தலம். புதன் ராசிக்காரர்கள் வழிபடவேண்டிய இத்திருக்கோயிலில் நடைபெறும் வைகுண்ட ஏகாதசிப்பெருவிழா வெகு விசேஷமாம்).. 🙏🏻ஓம் நமோ நாராயணாய நமக: 🇮🇳👍🏻*பாரத நாடு* *பழம்பெரும் நாடு!* *நீரதன் புதல்வர்!* *இந்நினைவகற்றாதீர்!*
