In the sanctum the Lord grants a beautiful darshan as Sri Venugopala Swamy, flanked by His consorts Rukmini and Sathyabhama, holding the flute to His lips and playing it with a gentle smile; for this lovely smiling form He also bears the name Sri Senganivai Perumal. His consort Sri Aravindanayaki graces a separate shrine in a seated posture. Recently renovated, the temple was originally built by the Chola king Karikala, and it is said that here Karikala Chola received from the sage Maitreya Maharishi the secret knowledge for constructing the Kallanai (Grand Anicut). It is a Vaishnava temple to be worshipped by those born under the Magam star. The village, named after Uthamaseeli, one of the four sons of Parantaka Chola I, was once called 'Uthamaseeli Chaturvedi Mangalam' before being shortened to today's Uthamaseeli. This is a Perumal temple to worship wholeheartedly for building a new house and for completing construction fully without it stalling midway.

(🙏🏻 சிறப்புக்கள் பல பெற்ற இத்தலத்தின் பதிவுகள் சில மட்டும்; கருவறையில் நம் திருமால், ஸ்ரீ வேணுகோபால சுவாமி எனும் திருநாமத்துடன், ஸ்ரீ ருக்மணி, சத்யபாமா தேவியர் இருபுறமும் உடனிருக்க, திருவாயில் புல்லாங்குழல் ஏந்தி, புன்முறுவலுடன் வாசிக்கும் திருக்கோலத்தில் அழகு அருட்காட்சியளிக்கிறார். (பேரழகாய் புன்முறுவலுடன் காட்சிதரும் இத்தல இறைவனுக்கு, 'ஸ்ரீ செங்கனிவாய் பெருமாள்' எனும் மற்றொரு திருநாமமும் உண்டு) தனி சன்னதியில், தாயார் ஸ்ரீ அரவிந்த நாயகி அமர்ந்திருக்கும் நிலையில் அருள்பாலிக்கிறாள். சமீப காலத்தில் திருப்பணிகள் செய்யப்பட்டுள்ள இத்திருக்கோவிலை, முற்காலத்தில் கட்டியவர் சோழ மன்னன் கரிகாலராம். (இத்திருத்தலத்தில்தான் கரிகாலச்சோழர், மைத்ரேய மகரிஷியிடம் கல்லணை கட்டுவதற்கான ரகசியங்களை உபதேசமாக பெற்றதாக கூறப்படுகிறது) மகம் நட்சத்திரக்காரர்கள் வழிபடவேண்டிய வைணவத்திருக்கோயில் இதுவாகும். (முதலாம் பராந்தக சோழரின் நான்கு புதல்வர்களில் ஒருவரான உத்தமசீலியின் பெயரால் இவ்வூர், அக்காலத்தில் 'உத்தமசீலி சதுர்வேதி மங்கலம்' என்றழைக்கப்பட்டு, பின் அப்பெயர் மருவி தற்போதைய 'உத்தமசீலி' என்றானது) புதியதாக வீடு கட்டுவதற்கும், வீடு கட்டும் பணி பாதியில் நின்றிடாமல் முழுமையாக கட்டி முடிப்பதற்கும் உளமார வழிபடவேண்டிய பெருமாள் கோவிலாகும்). 🙏🏻ஓம் நமோ நாராயணாய நமக: 🇮🇳👍🏻 *பாரத நாடு* *பழம்பெரும் நாடு!* *நீரதன் புதல்வர்!* *இந்நினைவகற்றாதீர்!*
