Sthala Purāṇam
मयिलाडुदुरै स्थित तिरु इन्दलूर का परिमल रङ्गनाथ पेरुमाळ मन्दिर कावेरी के तट पर स्थित है और यह पञ्चरङ्ग क्षेत्रों में से एक तथा नालायिर दिव्य प्रबन्धम् में स्तुति किया गया एक दिव्यदेशम् है। इन्दलूर नाम 'इन्दु' से व्युत्पन्न है, जिसका अर्थ है चन्द्रमा; क्योंकि यहीं चन्द्र देव ने विष्णु की आराधना की थी और उस शाप से मुक्त हुए थे जिसने उनकी कान्ति हर ली थी; भगवान ने प्रकट होकर अपने भक्त को आशीर्वाद दिया। भगवान का नाम परिमल रङ्गनाथ (परिमलम् अर्थात् सुगन्ध) इस परम्परा से समझाया जाता है कि जहाँ अन्यत्र भगवान व्योमज्योति हैं, वहीं यहाँ वे सुगन्ध से परिपूर्ण हैं; श्रीवैष्णव वृत्तान्त इस सुगन्ध को उस माधुर्य से भी जोड़ता है जो उन वेदों को प्राप्त हुआ जिन्हें विष्णु ने अपने मत्स्य अवतार में मधु और कैटभ नामक असुरों से पुनः प्राप्त किया था। एक प्रसिद्ध प्रसंग तिरुमङ्गै आऴ्वार से सम्बन्धित है, जो अपने स्तोत्र अर्पित करने आए परन्तु मन्दिर के द्वार बन्द पाए; निरन्तर गाते रहने पर भी जब द्वार नहीं खुले, तब उन्होंने गाया कि भगवान यह मन्दिर अपने ही पास रख लें, जिस पर द्वार खुल गए और उन्होंने अपना मङ्गलाशासनम् पूर्ण किया। परम्परा यह भी मानती है कि भगवान ने कावेरी को अपने मस्तक के ऊपर बहने के लिए उठा लिया, जैसे शिव के ऊपर गंगा, और इस प्रकार नदी से किया अपना वचन पूर्ण किया। मूलवर पूर्वाभिमुख होकर किडन्द (वीर शयन) मुद्रा में एक विशाल विग्रह के रूप में शयन करते हैं। तीर्थ इन्दु (चन्द्र) पुष्करणी है, विमान वेद चक्र विमान है, और पाँच मंजिला राजगोपुरम् मध्यकालीन चोलों, विजयनगर के शासकों और मदुरै नायकों के योगदान को प्रतिबिम्बित करता है।
Mangalāśāsanam — the Āḻvār pāsurams
The Lord Parimala Ranganatha (Sugandha Vana Natha) with Parimala Ranganayaki of Thiru Indhaloor is glorified by:
तिरुइन्दलूर (मयिलाडुदुरै), श्रीरंगम के रंगनाथ के समान शयन करने वाले परिमल रंगनाथ Perumāḷ (सुगन्ध वन नाथर) का निवास, जिसे केवल Thirumangai Āḻvār से ही अपना mangalāśāsanam प्राप्त हुआ। उन्होंने अपने पेरिय तिरुमोऴि में परिमल रंगनाथर की स्तुति में एक दशक (दस pāsuram) गाया। परंपरा बताती है कि जब Āḻvār पहुँचे तो उनके निरंतर गायन के बावजूद गर्भगृह के द्वार बंद ही रहे; क्षुब्ध होकर अंततः उन्होंने Perumāḷ से कहा कि वे मंदिर को अपने ही पास रखें, तब द्वार खुल गए। इन्दलूर नाम 'इन्दु' (चन्द्र) से जुड़ा है — यही वह स्थान है जहाँ Chandra को शाप से मुक्ति मिली (यह एक चन्द्र शाप विमोचन स्थलम है)।

O Lord of Thiru Indhaloor! You are our Lord who indwells as fire, You are our Lord who indwells as water, You are our Lord who pervades all the directions and the wide earth. Yet, standing thus as the indwelling soul of everything, we Your servants cannot perceive You directly. You who are our mother, and the father of our father (our every relation) — are You not, then, our very own Lord, the master of us Your servants here? It is You who have come and graciously taken Your stand in Thiru Indhaloor for our sake.
