ಮಯಿಲಾಡುದುರೈನಲ್ಲಿರುವ ತಿರು ಇಂದಳೂರಿನ ಪರಿಮಳ ರಂಗನಾಥ ಪೆರುಮಾಳ್ ದೇವಾಲಯವು ಕಾವೇರಿ ತೀರದ ಉದ್ದಕ್ಕೂ ನೆಲೆಸಿದೆ; ಇದು ಪಂಚರಂಗ ಕ್ಷೇತ್ರಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಒಂದಾಗಿ ಮತ್ತು ನಾಲಾಯಿರ ದಿವ್ಯ ಪ್ರಬಂಧದಲ್ಲಿ ಸ್ತುತಿಸಲ್ಪಟ್ಟ ಒಂದು ದಿವ್ಯದೇಶವಾಗಿ ವಿರಾಜಿಸುತ್ತದೆ. ಇಂದಳೂರು ಎಂಬ ಹೆಸರು ಚಂದ್ರನನ್ನು ಸೂಚಿಸುವ 'ಇಂದು' ಎಂಬ ಪದದಿಂದ ಹುಟ್ಟಿದೆ; ಏಕೆಂದರೆ ಇಲ್ಲಿಯೇ ಚಂದ್ರ ದೇವನು ವಿಷ್ಣುವನ್ನು ಆರಾಧಿಸಿ, ತನ್ನ ಕಾಂತಿಯನ್ನು ಕಸಿದುಕೊಂಡಿದ್ದ ಶಾಪದಿಂದ ಮುಕ್ತನಾದನು; ಸ್ವಾಮಿಯು ಪ್ರತ್ಯಕ್ಷನಾಗಿ ತನ್ನ ಭಕ್ತನನ್ನು ಅನುಗ್ರಹಿಸಿದನು. ಸ್ವಾಮಿಯ ಹೆಸರಾದ ಪರಿಮಳ ರಂಗನಾಥ (ಪರಿಮಳಂ ಎಂದರೆ ಸುಗಂಧ) ಎಂಬುದು, ಇತರೆಡೆ ಸ್ವಾಮಿಯು ವ್ಯೋಮಜ್ಯೋತಿಯಾಗಿ ಇರುವಲ್ಲಿ, ಇಲ್ಲಿ ಆತನು ಸುಗಂಧದಿಂದ ತುಂಬಿರುತ್ತಾನೆ ಎಂಬ ಸಂಪ್ರದಾಯದಿಂದ ವಿವರಿಸಲ್ಪಡುತ್ತದೆ; ಶ್ರೀವೈಷ್ಣವ ವೃತ್ತಾಂತವು ಈ ಸುಗಂಧವನ್ನು, ಸ್ವಾಮಿಯು ತನ್ನ ಮತ್ಸ್ಯಾವತಾರದಲ್ಲಿ ಮಧು ಮತ್ತು ಕೈಟಭ ಎಂಬ ರಾಕ್ಷಸರಿಂದ ಮರಳಿ ಪಡೆದ ವೇದಗಳಿಗೆ ನೀಡಲಾದ ಮಾಧುರ್ಯದೊಂದಿಗೂ ಜೋಡಿಸುತ್ತದೆ. ತಿರುಮಂಗೈ ಆೞ್ವಾರ್ ಅವರಿಗೆ ಸಂಬಂಧಿಸಿದ ಒಂದು ಪ್ರಸಿದ್ಧ ಪ್ರಸಂಗವಿದೆ; ಅವರು ತಮ್ಮ ಪಾಸುರಗಳನ್ನು ಅರ್ಪಿಸಲು ಬಂದಾಗ ದೇವಾಲಯದ ಬಾಗಿಲುಗಳು ಮುಚ್ಚಿದ್ದವು; ನಿರಂತರವಾಗಿ ಹಾಡಿದರೂ ಬಾಗಿಲುಗಳು ತೆರೆಯದಿದ್ದಾಗ, ಸ್ವಾಮಿಯು ಈ ದೇವಾಲಯವನ್ನು ತನಗಾಗಿಯೇ ಇಟ್ಟುಕೊಳ್ಳಲಿ ಎಂದು ಅವರು ಹಾಡಿದರು; ಕೂಡಲೇ ಬಾಗಿಲುಗಳು ತೆರೆದವು, ಅವರು ತಮ್ಮ ಮಂಗಳಾಶಾಸನವನ್ನು ಪೂರ್ಣಗೊಳಿಸಿದರು. ಮೇಲಾಗಿ, ಶಿವನ ಮೇಲೆ ಗಂಗೆ ಇರುವಂತೆ, ಸ್ವಾಮಿಯು ಕಾವೇರಿಯನ್ನು ತನ್ನ ಶಿರಸ್ಸಿನ ಮೇಲೆ ಹರಿಯುವಂತೆ ಎತ್ತಿ, ಆ ನದಿಗೆ ನೀಡಿದ ಮಾತನ್ನು ಈಡೇರಿಸಿದನೆಂದು ಸಂಪ್ರದಾಯವು ಹೇಳುತ್ತದೆ. ಮೂಲವರ್ ಕಿಡಂದ (ವೀರ ಶಯನ) ಭಂಗಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಪೂರ್ವಾಭಿಮುಖವಾಗಿ ಒಂದು ದೊಡ್ಡ ವಿಗ್ರಹವಾಗಿ ಶಯನಿಸಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ತೀರ್ಥವು ಇಂದು (ಚಂದ್ರ) ಪುಷ್ಕರಿಣಿ, ವಿಮಾನವು ವೇದ ಚಕ್ರ ವಿಮಾನ, ಮತ್ತು ಐದು ಅಂತಸ್ತಿನ ರಾಜಗೋಪುರವು ಮಧ್ಯಕಾಲೀನ ಚೋಳರು, ವಿಜಯನಗರ ಅರಸರು ಮತ್ತು ಮದುರೈ ನಾಯಕರ ಕೊಡುಗೆಗಳನ್ನು ಪ್ರತಿಬಿಂಬಿಸುತ್ತದೆ.
Mangalāśāsanam — the Āḻvār pāsurams

ತಿರುಇಂದಲೂರ್ (ಮಯಿಲಾಡುದುರೈ), ಶ್ರೀರಂಗದ ರಂಗನಾಥನಂತೆ ಶಯನಿಸಿರುವ ಪರಿಮಳ ರಂಗನಾಥ Perumāḷ (ಸುಗಂಧ ವನ ನಾಥರ್) ನೆಲೆಸಿರುವ ದಿವ್ಯ ದೇಶ, Thirumangai Āḻvār ಒಬ್ಬರಿಂದಲೇ ತನ್ನ mangalāśāsanam ಪಡೆದಿದೆ. ಅವರು ತಮ್ಮ ಪೆರಿಯ ತಿರುಮೊೞಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಪರಿಮಳ ರಂಗನಾಥರನ್ನು ಸ್ತುತಿಸುತ್ತಾ ಒಂದು ಪದಿಗ (ಹತ್ತು pāsuram) ಹಾಡಿದರು. Āḻvār ಬಂದಾಗ ಅವರು ನಿರಂತರವಾಗಿ ಹಾಡಿದರೂ ಗರ್ಭಗುಡಿಯ ಬಾಗಿಲುಗಳು ಮುಚ್ಚಿಯೇ ಇದ್ದವೆಂದೂ; ವ್ಯಥೆಯಿಂದ ಅವರು ಕೊನೆಗೆ Perumāḷ ಗೆ ದೇವಾಲಯವನ್ನು ತಾವೇ ಇಟ್ಟುಕೊಳ್ಳುವಂತೆ ಹೇಳಿದಾಗ ಬಾಗಿಲುಗಳು ತೆರೆದವೆಂದೂ ಐತಿಹ್ಯ. ಇಂದಲೂರ್ ಎಂಬ ಹೆಸರು 'ಇಂದು' (ಚಂದ್ರ) ದೊಂದಿಗೆ ಸಂಬಂಧಿಸಿದೆ — Chandra ಶಾಪದಿಂದ ಮುಕ್ತಿ ಪಡೆದ ಸ್ಥಳ ಇದೇ (ಇದು ಒಂದು ಚಂದ್ರ ಶಾಪ ವಿಮೋಚನ ಸ್ಥಲಂ).
தீ எம்பெருமான் நீர் எம்பெருமான் திசையும் இருநிலனும் ஆய், எம்பெருமான் ஆகி நின்றால் அடியோம் காணோமால், தாய் எம்பெருமான் தந்தை தந்தை ஆவீர், அடியோமுக் கே எம்பெருமான் அல்லீரோ? நீர் இந்தளூரீரே.

O Lord of Thiru Indhaloor! You are our Lord who indwells as fire, You are our Lord who indwells as water, You are our Lord who pervades all the directions and the wide earth. Yet, standing thus as the indwelling soul of everything, we Your servants cannot perceive You directly. You who are our mother, and the father of our father (our every relation) — are You not, then, our very own Lord, the master of us Your servants here? It is You who have come and graciously taken Your stand in Thiru Indhaloor for our sake.
