Sthala Purāṇam

Thiruvahindrapuram, about 5 km west of Cuddalore on the banks of the Garuda Nadi (Gadilam) in Tamil Nadu, enshrines Devanatha Perumal in a standing posture with Thayar Hemambujavalli, also called Vaikuntanayaki. By tradition Adisesha created the shrine; its tirthams are the Sesha Theertham (Adisesha) and Vajra Theertham (Garuda), and the vimanam is the Suddhasatva Vimanam. On the adjacent Aushadagiri hillock is a celebrated shrine to Hayagriva, the deity of knowledge and learning. Swami Vedanta Desika lived and worshipped here — the spot is preserved as Desikan Tirumaaligai — and is traditionally associated with the Hayagriva moorti of this temple.
