ഭഗവാന് യുദ്ധമുറിവുകളോടെ ദര്ശനം നല്കുന്ന ഏക Divya Desam; ചെന്നൈയിലെ ഏറ്റവും പുരാതനമായ ക്ഷേത്രങ്ങളിലൊന്ന്.
Sthala Purāṇam
ചെന്നൈയിലെ ട്രിപ്ലിക്കേന് (തിരുവല്ലിക്കേണി)യിലുള്ള പാര്ഥസാരഥി ക്ഷേത്രം ഏകദേശം എട്ടാം നൂറ്റാണ്ടിലെ പല്ലവ കാലഘട്ടത്തിലേതാണ്; നഗരത്തിലെ ഏറ്റവും പുരാതനമായ നിര്മിതികളിലൊന്ന്. മൂലവിഗ്രഹം വേങ്കടകൃഷ്ണന്, പാര്ഥസാരഥിയായി — അതായത് കുരുക്ഷേത്ര യുദ്ധത്തില് പാര്ഥന്റെ (അര്ജുനന്റെ) സാരഥിയായി — ആരാധിക്കപ്പെടുന്നു. Sthala Purāṇam അനുസരിച്ച്, സുമതി എന്ന രാജാവ് തിരുപ്പതിയില് വേങ്കടേശ പെരുമാളിനോട്, അര്ജുനന്റെ സാരഥി രൂപത്തില് വിഷ്ണുവിനെ ദര്ശിക്കണമെന്ന് പ്രാര്ഥിച്ചു; അദ്ദേഹത്തെ ഈ തുളസീ വനത്തിലേക്ക് നയിച്ചപ്പോള്, ഇവിടെത്തന്നെ പെരുമാള് ആ ദിവ്യദര്ശനം അനുഗ്രഹിച്ചു. ഈ സ്ഥലം ക്ഷേത്രത്തിന്റെ ഉത്ഭവത്തിന് കാരണമായി കരുതപ്പെടുന്ന അത്രേയ മഹര്ഷിയുമായും, ഇവിടെ തപസ്സനുഷ്ഠിച്ച ഋഷിമാരുമായും ബന്ധപ്പെട്ടിരിക്കുന്നു. തിരുവല്ലിക്കേണി എന്ന പേര് അല്ലി-കേണി — ആമ്പല് പൂക്കളുടെ കുളം — എന്നതില് നിന്ന് ഉരുത്തിരിഞ്ഞതാണ്. വിഷ്ണു ക്ഷേത്രങ്ങളില് അപൂര്വമായി, ഇവിടത്തെ മൂലവിഗ്രഹം പ്രകടമായ മീശയോടും ശംഖത്തോടും കൂടി ദര്ശനം നല്കുന്നു; മുഖത്തെ ഒരു അടയാളം, താന് ആയുധമേന്താതെ അര്ജുനനെ കാത്തുരക്ഷിക്കവേ ഭീഷ്മരുടെ അമ്പുകളാല് കൃഷ്ണന് ഏറ്റ മുറിവുമായി ബന്ധപ്പെട്ടിരിക്കുന്നു. ഈ ക്ഷേത്രം വിഷ്ണുവിന്റെ അഞ്ച് രൂപങ്ങള് — യോഗ നരസിംഹം, രാമന്, ഗജേന്ദ്ര വരദരാജന്, രംഗനാഥന്, പാര്ഥസാരഥിയായ കൃഷ്ണന് — പ്രതിഷ്ഠിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു. Nālāyira Divya Prabandham-ല് Thirumangai Āḻvār-ഉം, പൂര്വകാല Pey Āḻvār-ഉം ഇതിനെ മംഗളാശാസനം ചെയ്തു. ക്ഷേത്ര തീര്ഥം കൈരവിണി പുഷ്കരിണിയാണ്; നിരവധി തീര്ഥങ്ങളുമായി ബന്ധപ്പെട്ടത്. ശ്രീകോവില് ആനന്ദ (ആനന്ദ) വിമാനത്തോടു കൂടിയതാണ്.
Mangalāśāsanam — the Āḻvār pāsurams
The Lord Venkatakrishnan (Utsavar: Parthasarathy) with Rukmini Thayar; Vedavalli Thayar of Thiruvallikeni (Brindaranya Kshetram) is glorified in 12 pāsurams by:
തിരുവല്ലിക്കേണി (Triplicane), ശ്രീ പാര്ഥസാരഥിയുടെ (വേങ്കടകൃഷ്ണന്) ദിവ്യധാമം, തൊണ്ടൈ നാട് പ്രദേശത്തെ Divya Desam-കളിലൊന്നാണ്; മൂന്ന് Āḻvār-മാരില് നിന്ന് Mangalāśāsanam ലഭിച്ചു. ഇതിന്റെ ഭൂരിഭാഗം സ്തുതിയും Thirumangai Āḻvār-ല് നിന്നാണ്; അദ്ദേഹം തന്റെ Periya Thirumozhi (2.3)-ല് പാര്ഥസാരഥിക്ക് ഒരു മുഴുവന് പതികവും (10 pāsuram) സമര്പ്പിച്ചു — കൃഷ്ണന് കംസനെയും അവന്റെ മല്ലന്മാരെയും വധിച്ചതും, അര്ജുനന്റെ സാരഥിയായി നിലകൊണ്ടതും അനുസ്മരിച്ചുകൊണ്ട്. Pey Āḻvār-ഉം Thirumazhisai Āḻvār-ഉം ഓരോ പാട്ട് വീതം സംഭാവന ചെയ്തു; ഇതോടെ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിന്റെ ആകെ 12 pāsuram ആകുന്നു. പാരമ്പര്യമനുസരിച്ച് ശ്രീ രാമാനുജരും Manavala Mamunigal-ഉം ഇവിടെ ആരാധന അര്പ്പിച്ചതായും പറയപ്പെടുന്നു.

He who destroyed Kamsa's bow-festival, his wrestlers and the elephant Kuvalayapida along with its mahout; who relieved the great suffering Shiva had to endure; who took a mere goad/whip in hand and stood before Arjuna's chariot as his charioteer so that his enemies would perish; and who, at the word of his stepmother (in the Rama avatar), renounced his crown — that very Lord, Sri Parthasarathy, I have beheld at Thiruvallikeni.
