Sthala Mahātmyam
On the banks of the Tamiraparani river stands this large Vaishnava temple, known to have been built by the later Pandyas around 1012 to 1044 CE. In the sanctum the Lord grants darshan standing as Sri Bhaktavatsala Perumal, alone and without His Devi; only Sri Bhumadevi appears, gracing the temple prakaram. It is counted among the twelve special temples mentioned by Vyasa. A noted specialty is the Saturday worship offered to Sri Yoga Narasimhar in the prakara mandapam. Though little known to devotees from outside and familiar mostly to local people, this vast temple holds sculptures that are truly wondrous. Set at the edge of Cheranmahadevi amid green fields and rich in inscriptions, it stands under the care of the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI). All the important festivals dear to Lord Vishnu are celebrated here, and the Purattasi Brahmotsavam is observed as an especially grand and special occasion.

(🙏🏻 சிறப்புக்கள் பல பெற்ற இத்தலத்தின் பதிவுகள் சில மட்டும்; தாமிரபரணி ஆற்றங்கரையில், பிற்கால பாண்டியர்களால், (1012-1044 ஆம் ஆண்டுகளின் காலகட்டத்தில்) கட்டப்பட்டதாக அறியப்படும் இந்த பெரிய வைணவ திருத்தலத்தின் கருவறையில் நம் பெருமாள், ஸ்ரீ பக்தவத்சலப் பெருமாள் எனும் திருநாமத்துடன் நின்ற திருக்கோலத்தில் அருட்காட்சியளிக்கிறார். (கருவறையில், தேவியர் இல்லாமல் நம் பெருமாள் தனித்து நின்றிருக்க, ஆலய பிரகாரத்தில் ஸ்ரீ பூமாதேவி மட்டும் திருக்காட்சியளிக்கிறாள்) வியாசரால் குறிப்பிடப்பட்ட சிறப்புமிக்க 12-கோயில்களில், இத்திருத்தலமும் ஒன்றாகும். (பிரகார மண்டபத்தில் அருள்பாலிக்கும் ஸ்ரீ யோக நரசிம்மருக்கு நடைபெறும் சனிக்கிழமை வழிபாடு மற்றுமொரு தலவிசேஷம்) உள்ளூர் மக்களைத் தவிர வெளியூர் பக்தர்களால் அதிகம் அறியப்படாத இந்த பெரும் ஆலயத்தினுள் வடிக்கப்பட்டிருக்கும் சிற்பங்கள் அத்தனையும் அற்புதம்! அற்புதம்! சேரன்மகாதேவி ஊரின் எல்லையில், பசுமையான வயல்களின் நடுவில் அமைந்துள்ள (கல்வெட்டுகள் நிறைந்த) இத்திருத்தலம், நமது இந்திய தொல்லியல் துறையின் (ASI) கட்டுப்பாட்டில் உள்ளது. திருமாலுக்கு உகந்த முக்கியமான விழாக்கள் அனைத்தும் கொண்டாடப்படும் இத்திருத்தலத்தில் நடைபெறும் புரட்டாசி பிரம்மோற்சவம் விழா வெகு விசேஷமாம்). 🙏🏻ஓம் நமோ நாராயணாய நமக: 🇮🇳🙏🏻 *பாரத நாடு* *பழம்பெரும் நாடு!* *நீரதன் புதல்வர்!* *இந்நினைவகற்றாதீர்!*
