Believed to be over 800 years old, this Vaishnava temple enshrines a swayambhu stone 'kadali' (kadali meaning plantain or banana) before the Lord, behind which Thirumal grants darshan standing with his two consorts. In earlier times the Lord manifested self-born within a snake's anthill in the form of a banana flower as a stone vigraha (also revered as a Lingam), and so the presiding deity bears the name Sri Kadali Narasingar. Sengamala Thayar graces a separate shrine in beautiful form. Built in the Pandya period, the temple was later expanded and renovated during the Nayak era. For the past 200 years Sri Kala Bhairavar has resided here, receiving special worship on the waning-moon Ashtami days, one of the temple's specialties. One of Theni district's renowned ancient temples, devotees pray here for the blessing of children, and after the first child is born they place the infant at the Lord's feet to receive grace (a custom called 'thathu koduppathu'). All important festivals dear to the Perumal are grandly observed, the ten-day chariot (ther) festival in Chithirai being especially magnificent.

(🙏🏻 சிறப்புக்கள் பல பெற்ற இத்தலத்தின் பதிவுகள் சில மட்டும்; சுமார் 800-ஆண்டுகளுக்கும் மேல் பழமையானதாக கருதப்படும் இந்த வைணவ திருத்தலத்தின் கருவறையில், (இறைவன் முன்) சுயம்புவாக கல் கதலி இருக்க, அதன் பின்னே நம் திருமால், தேவியர் இருவருடன் நின்ற திருக்கோலத்தில் அருட்காட்சியளிக்கிறார். ( 'கதலி' என்றால் 'வாழை' ) முற்காலத்தில், பாம்பு புற்றினுள் வாழைப்பூ வடிவில் (6-வது புகைப்பட பதிவினில் குறியிடப்பட்டுள்ள) கல் விக்ரகமாக சுயம்புவாக (இதனை, 🙏🏻லிங்கம் என்றும் கூறுவர்) அருட்காட்சியளித்ததால், இத்தல இறைவனுக்கு ஸ்ரீ கதலி நரசிங்கர் எனும் திருநாமமாம். செங்கமல தாயார், தனி சன்னதியில் அழகு திருக்காட்சியளிக்க.றாள். பாண்டியர் காலத்தில் கட்டப்பட்ட இத்திருத்தலம், நாயக்கர்கள் காலத்தில் விரிவுபடுத்தப்பட்டு திருப்பணிகள் செய்யப்பட்டுள்ளன. (கடந்த 200-ஆண்டுகளாக, ஸ்ரீ காலபைரவர் இத்திருத்தலத்தில் அருட்குடிகொண்டிருப்பதும், தேய்பிறை அஷ்டமி நாட்களில் இவருக்கு சிறப்பு வழிபாடுகள் நடைபெறுவதும் தலவிசேஷங்களில் ஒன்றாகும்) தேனி மாவட்டத்தில் பிரசித்தி பெற்ற பழமைமிகு ஆலயங்களில் ஒன்றான இத்திருத்தலத்தில், நல்மகப்பேறு கிடைக்கப்பெற வேண்டுதல் வைப்பதும், (முதல்) குழந்தை பிறந்தவுடன், அக்குழந்தையை இறைவன் திருவடிமுன் வைத்து அருளாசி பெறுவதும் மற்றுமொரு (இதற்கு 'தத்து கொடுப்பது' என்று பெயராம்) தலவிசேஷம். பெருமாளுக்கு உகந்த முக்கியமான விழாக்கள் அனைத்தும் சிறப்பாக கொண்டாடப்படும் இத்தலத்தில், சித்திரையில் 10-நாட்கள் நடைபெறும் தேர்த்திருவிழா உற்சவ வைபவம் வெகு விசேஷமாம்). 🙏🏻ஓம் நமோ நாராயணாய நமக: 🇮🇳👍🏻 *பாரத நாடு* *பழம்பெரும் நாடு!* *நீரதன் புதல்வர்!* *இந்நினைவகற்றாதீர்!*
