Several centuries old and recently renovated, this Vaishnava temple enshrines the Lord beneath an Ashtanga vimanam as Sri Koodal Azhagiya Perumal, standing with His Devis on either side, while Sri Mahalakshmi Thayar graces a separate shrine in a seated posture. A distinctive custom is that the Lord receives no thirumanjanam; instead, every Friday He is adorned with a protective 'kappu' of fragrant substances blended with gingelly oil. The temple was built by Bhuvanendra Raja, a Cheranadu chieftain who bore deep devotion to the Koodalazhagar of Madurai, and the Pandya kings later carried out renovations. Another specialty is that the utsavar here is called by the name of Sundararajar, the Kallazhagar of Madurai Thirumaliruncholai. All festivals dear to the divine couple are observed grandly, foremost among them the Chithirai festival, when on Chithra Pournami day a 'vidhaippu koodai', a basket of seed paddy grains, is offered praying for the flourishing of agriculture.

(🙏🏻 சிறப்புக்கள் பல பெற்ற இத்திருத்தலத்தின் பதிவுகள் சில மட்டும்; நூற்றாண்டுகள் பல கடந்த (சமீப காலத்தில் சிறப்பாக திருப்பணிகள் செய்யப்பட்டுள்ள) இந்த வைணவ திருத்தலத்தின் அஷ்டாங்க விமானத்தின் கீழ் உள்ள கருவறையில் நம் திருமால், ஸ்ரீ கூடல் அழகிய பெருமாள் எனும் திருநாமத்துடன் தேவியர் இருபுறமும் உடனிருக்க நின்ற திருக்கோலத்தில் அருட்காட்சியளிக்கிறார். (இவருக்கு திருமஞ்சனம் கிடையாது. வெள்ளிக்கிழமை தோறும் வாசனை திரவியம் மற்றும் நல்லெண்ணெய் சேர்ந்த கலவையால் காப்பிட்டு பூஜை செய்வது தலவிசேஷம்) தனி சன்னதியில், நம் மஹாலக்ஷ்மி தாயார் அமர்ந்த திருக்கோலத்தில் அருள்பாலிக்கிறாள் .மதுரை கூடலழகர் மீது அதீத பக்தி கொண்டிருந்த சேரநாட்டு குறுநில மன்னரான புவனேந்திர ராஜவால் கட்டப்பட்ட இத்திருக்கோவிலுக்கு, பாண்டிய மன்னர்கள் திருப்பணிகள் செய்துள்ளதாக தலவரலாறு கூறுகிறது. இத்திருத்தல உற்சவர், மதுரை திருமாலிருஞ்சோலையில் அருளிடும சுந்தரராஜரின் (கள்ளழகர்) திருநாமத்தில் அழைக்கப்படுவது மற்றுமொரு தலவிசேஷம். பெருமாள் தம்பதியருக்கு உகந்த அத்தனை விழாக்களும் சிறப்பாக கொண்டாடப்படும் இத்திருத்தலத்தில், ஆண்டுதோறும் நடைபெறும் (சித்ரா பவுர்ணமி திருநாளில், விவசாயம் செழிக்க விதை நெல் மணிகளை ஒரு கூடையில் வைத்து படைக்கும் 'விதைப்புக் கூடை' ) சித்திரைத் திருவிழா தலச்சிறப்புக்களில் முதன்மையானதாகும்). 🙏🏻ஓம் நமோ நாராயணாய நமக: 🇮🇳👍🏻 *பாரத நாடு* *பழம்பெரும் நாடு!* *நீரதன் புதல்வர்* *இந்நினைவகற்றாதீர்!*
