This small and little-known Vaishnava temple at Padagachery, cherished mainly by the local people, enshrines the Lord Thirumal together with His two consorts under the distinctive name 'Kandullam Magizhntha Perumal.' He grants a joyful, gently smiling darshan and dates from the Chola period. Adi Pooram and Vaikunta Ekadasi are celebrated here with special grandeur, and the temple is held to be connected with the age of the Ramayana. According to tradition, it was on account of an event involving the maya deer (mayaman) that the Lord came to bear the name 'Kandullam Magizhntha Perumal,' the Lord whose heart rejoiced at what He beheld. This is a shrine where couples living apart through differences of mind are counselled to worship wholeheartedly so that they may be reunited in love. The temple stands in the village of Padagachery, about two kilometres from Alangudi, the celebrated Guru sthalam, and remains a quiet haven of grace for devotees of the surrounding region.
