Built during the reign of the Maratha kings of Thanjavur, this ancient Vaishnava temple enshrines the Lord of the Seven Hills together with his two consorts under the sacred name Sri Kaliyuga Venkatesa Perumal. Devotees call it the 'Nithya Sorga Vasal' (perpetual gate of heaven) temple. While in most Perumal temples the Sorga Vasal is opened only on Vaikunta Ekadasi, here, following the Lord's own instruction in a Maratha king's dream, it remains open on every day of the year, its foremost distinction. Devotees have darshan of the Lord and then pass out daily through the Sorga Vasal, giving the shrine its name. It is said to be the only ancient Perumal temple in Tamil Nadu with a north-facing rajagopuram. Remarkably for a Vaishnava temple, the koshta niches hold deities usually seen in Shiva temples, Ganapathi, Kotravai, Bichadanar and Nataraja, while the vilva tree stands here as a form of Sri Mahalakshmi and the sthala vruksham, and among the navagrahas Chandra takes the place of Surya. Saturday worship of Sri Anuman and special worship of the utsava couple are observed for wellbeing and prosperity.

(🙏🏻 சிறப்புக்கள் பல பெற்ற இத்திருத்தலத்தின் பதிவுகள் சில மட்டும்; தஞ்சையை ஆட்சி செய்த மராட்டிய மன்னர் காலத்தில் கட்டப்பட்ட இந்த பழமைமிகு வைணவ திருத்தலத்தின் கருவறையில் நம் வேங்கடவன், தேவியர் இருவருடன் ஸ்ரீ கலியுக வெங்கடேச பெருமாள் எனும் திருநாமத்துடன் அருட்காட்சியளிக்கிறார். இத்திருத்தலத்தினை பக்தர்கள், 'நித்திய சொர்க்க வாசல் கொண்ட பெருமாள் கோயில் ' என்றழைக்கிறார்கள். பொதுவாக, அனைத்து பெருமாள் கோவில்களிலும் வைகுண்ட ஏகாதசி அன்று ஒரு நாள் மட்டுமே சொர்க்க வாசல் திறந்ததிருக்கும். ஆனால், (மராட்டிய மன்னர் கனவில், திருமால் உணர்த்தியபடி) இத்திருத்தலத்தில் மட்டும் வருடத்தின் அனைத்து நாடுகளிலும் சொர்க்க வாசல் திறந்திருப்பது தலச்சிறப்புக்களில் முதன்மையானதாகும். இங்கு பெருமாளை தரிசனம் செய்திடும் பக்தர்கள், பின்னர் சொர்க்க வாசலைப் பயன்படுத்தி வெளியே வருவதை தினமும் செய்கிறார்கள். எனவே, இத்திருத்தலம் 'நித்திய சொர்க்க வாசல்' திருத்தலம் என்றழைக்கப்படுகிறது. நமது தமிழகத்தில், வடதிசை ராஜகோபுரம் கொண்ட ஒரே (பழமையான) பெருமாள் கோயில் என்பது மற்றுமொரு தலச்சிறப்பாகும். வைணவ திருக்கோயிலான இத்திருத்தலத்தில், சிவாலயங்களில் காணப்படும் ஸ்ரீகணபதி, கொற்றவை, பிச்சாடனர், நடராஜர் ஆகிய தெய்வங்கள் கருவறை கோஷ்டத்தில் இடம் பெற்றிருப்பதும், சிவனுக்குரிய வில்வமரம், (இத்திருத்தலத்தில்) ஸ்ரீ மஹாலக்ஷ்மி அம்சமாகவும், தலவிருட்சமாகவும் இருப்பதும், நவக்கிரகங்களுக்கு நடுவில், சூரியனுக்கு பதிலாக சந்திரன் இருப்பதும் தலச்சிறப்புக்களில் சிலவாகும். நமது பெருமாள் தம்பதியருக்கு உகந்த அனைத்து விழாக்களும் சிறப்பாக கொண்டாடப்படும் இத்திருத்தலத்தில், சனிக்கிழமை நாட்களில் நலமும் சிறக்க நடைபெறும் ஸ்ரீ அனுமன் வழிபாடும், வளம் செழிக்க பெருமாள்(உற்சவர்) தம்பதியருக்கு நடைபெறும் சிறப்பு வழிபாடும் தலவிசேஷம்). 🙏🏻ஓம் நமோ நாராயணாய நமக: 🇮🇳👍🏻 *பாரத நாடு* *பழம்பெரும் நாடு!* *நீரதன் புதல்வர்!* *இந்நினைவகற்றாதீர்!*
